Jenji Kohan: “Weeds” Originally Called “Crack”
I thought this article was funny.. kinda.. It’s from the SeriousCelebrityNewsNetwork and apparently they do crude fake news stories.. and they decided to focus on our Weeds executive producer Jenji..
HOLLYWOOD, CA – Showtime’s controversial hit show “Weeds” somehow just got a little more controversial.
The show’s creator, Jenji Kohan, admitted to SCNN that its original title was “Crack“, but that the title was changed after Showtime got cold feet.
“You think it’s racist to have the only minority characters in a television show be the ones who sell pot?” Kohan said. “Imagine if they were crack dealers. Now that’s racist!”
Kohan added other than that the show was pretty much the same, with the title switch being the main change.
“I mean there were other things, like that Nancy [the show's star] eventually became addicted to crack and sold her children so she could be more of the drug,” she said. “The original ending to season one had her becoming a full-fledged crack whore. So it’s not really that much different from ‘Weeds’, I think.”
Kohan went on to add she’s never actually seen the show, but that she hears it’s really good. She said while it is difficult to write a show she doesn’t watch, it isn’t impossible.
“I normally just type a bunch of words on pages and Showtime arranges it to make sense,” she said. “Hell, most of the time I’m so high on crack I have no clue what I’m writing. Who are you again?”
Showtime refused to comment on Kohan’s claims, as they were too busy watching the latest HBO television series.
